The old meretmonde.ca address redirects to Essipit Vacances – Plein air, which means Mer et Monde is now the paddling arm of the Innu community of Essipit's tourism business, sitting alongside the community's zodiac whale cruises, campgrounds and outfitters. The Mer et Monde name survives on the kayak trips and on the campground at Anse à la Cave, registered as establishment number 213684.
What has not changed is the shape of the product: professional adventure guides, small groups, tandem boats, and a land session before anyone gets wet. The site is explicit that each outing starts with an on-shore initiation covering technique and safety, which is the right way to put a beginner into cold water with big animals around.
The trips, in order of commitment
The half-day Discovering the St. Lawrence is the entry point: 3.5 hours total — one hour of preparation and interpretation on land, two hours paddling, 30 minutes of wrap-up. The rules that shape a kayak day here
This is the part most kayak marketing skips. Inside the Saguenay–St. Lawrence Marine Park you must stay at least 400 m from belugas, blue whales and North Atlantic right whales, and 200 m from minke, fin and humpback whales, according to the park authority. Within half a nautical mile of belugas the rules tell kayakers and paddleboarders to keep paddling away rather than drift and watch. Recreational drones are banned inside the park outright.
So the honest description of a Mer et Monde outing is this: you paddle a spectacular stretch of cold water with an interpreter, and whales may surface within earshot on their terms. Minke whales and seals are the common close encounters. A beluga at the legal distance is a white shape and a breath, not a photograph.

Arrive 30 minutes before the posted start. The site states plainly that late arrivals cannot join and are not refunded, which is unusually blunt and worth respecting. Rain does not cancel anything. Pregnancy under four months or over six months is listed as a contraindication, and staff can refuse to pair 14- to 17-year-olds depending on conditions.
One more thing the site says and travellers ignore: the Essipit territory is large, and the driving times between Tadoussac, Les Bergeronnes and the accommodation sites are real. Book the launch point that matches where you are sleeping.

Book Mer et Monde if the paddling is the point and the whales are a bonus you are willing to lose. The half day is the right first purchase; the full day earns its price because the meal break puts you somewhere you could not otherwise reach. If you want a near-certain sighting in a fixed three hours, take a boat instead and come back for the kayak another day.
