Sea Watch Tours runs whale and puffin trips from Seal Cove on Grand Manan Island, and it is one of the very few operators in Canada to publish a real sighting guarantee: whale sightings guaranteed, or the tour is free. The whale and seabird trip costs $100 per adult for four to five and a half hours on the water, according to seawatchtours.ca. The complication is not the boat — it is getting yourself to the island.
What it actually is
A small family operation that describes itself as New Brunswick's longest-running eco-tour, operating since 1969. That makes it older than every other whale operator we have looked at in Atlantic Canada. Captain Alec skippers, with a first mate and crew who hold First Aid and CPR training.
First, a practical note: the domain in most directories, seawatchtours.com, currently serves a blank hosting page. The live site is seawatchtours.ca. If a search engine has sent you to the dead one, that is why the rates looked missing.
The vessel is the M.V. Day's Catch, inspected annually by the Canadian Coast Guard. Guest seating is in the aft section under a partial canopy, with a heated cabin holding the washroom and the wheelhouse. That is a smaller, more working-boat proposition than the catamarans further up the bay — closer to the water, less shelter, and a crew you will actually talk to.
Sea Watch publishes the Bay of Fundy whale-watching code of ethics in full on its own site, which is more than most. The terms commit operators to first-viewing priority for whoever finds a whale, no more than two vessels within 100 m of an animal at a time, a maximum of 30 minutes on a sighting when others are waiting, and moving off any whale showing avoidance behaviour. It also treats a group of up to ten kayaks as one vessel.
The two trips
The Whale & Seabird Tour runs from early July to the end of September, four to five and a half hours depending on where the feed is, up to 40 passengers. Through July it leaves at 08:00 or 13:00, whichever the puffin schedule leaves free; from August onward the standard sailing is midday. After September 10 it needs 12 adults to go. The route pushes out among the inner islands, past White Head Island and into open water, where humpback and finback whales share the herring with the seabirds.
The Puffin Tour to Machias Seal Island is the other reason people cross: about five and a half hours, late June to the end of July, roughly 20 places at $300. It sells out, and the site announces the sale date each spring.

One caveat on currency: the site quotes figures without a symbol convention and says you may pay in cash, US or Canadian. It is a New Brunswick operator, so Canadian dollars are the reasonable assumption — confirm it when you book.
The guarantee, which is unusual
Almost every Canadian operator that uses the word "guaranteed" means a free re-ride within a window. Sea Watch's wording is different, and stronger. It is also short on mechanics, so pin it down on the phone: who decides that nothing was seen, and whether you get money back or a second sailing. A promise you cannot describe is a promise you cannot claim.
Practical detail only this page gives you
Plan the ferry before the boat. Coastal Transport sails from Blacks Harbour, at the end of Route 776 off Route 1 in southwestern New Brunswick; the operator does not publish a crossing time, so check it when you reserve. The crossing to the island is free and you pay on the return: C$13.00 per adult and C$39.25 for a car at non-resident rates, HST exempt, with under-5s free. Reservations are recommended.
Daily departures from Blacks Harbour are at 09:30, 13:30, 17:30 and 21:00, with three extra summer sailings at 07:30, 11:30 and 15:30 from early June to late September. Return sailings from Grand Manan run at 07:30, 11:30, 15:30 and 19:15, plus summer extras.
The arithmetic matters. An 08:00 whale departure from Seal Cove is not reachable from the mainland the same morning, so book a night on the island for a July trip. A midday August sailing is tighter but plausible on the early ferry — and Seal Cove sits at the far end of the island from the North Head terminal, so allow driving time.
Reservations are held on a Visa or Mastercard that is not charged; you pay on the boat by card, debit or cash. Fisheries and Oceans Canada requires 100 m from whales and 200 m from any that are resting or with a calf, and right whales are endangered — if one appears, the boat backs off, and that is the rule working.
How it compares on this water
Prices are checked regularly, and neither of these is a Sea Watch product — the first is priced per boat, the second per person.
The first is a private charter priced per boat out of Saint John. On the water, Quoddy Link Marine is the mainland alternative from St. Andrews — a bigger, more sheltered catamaran and no guarantee at all. Verdict
If you are spending a night or more on Grand Manan, book Sea Watch: the longest trip in the bay, the lowest adult fare we have found, and the only sighting promise around. Do not try to bolt it onto a mainland day trip — the ferry times will beat you. And if the puffins are the point, watch for the sale date and book the moment it opens.
