The catch is the guarantee: the re-ride is stand-by, which is a different promise from a held seat.
What SpringTide Whale Watching actually is
A family business, not a brand. The site names Dan and Joanne Kukat as the owners and says they have run it for more than three decades. The history page is unusually specific for this industry: Dan was a CPA and Joanne worked in computer sales and marketing before they moved from Vancouver to Victoria with a 36-foot boat called SpringTide, ran sport-fishing charters first, and shifted to wildlife viewing as whale watching took off in the early 1990s. The boat gave the company its name.
One thing to sort out before you search: the old springtidewhalewatching.com address no longer serves a working site. The live site is victoriawhalewatching.com. GetYourGuide also keeps a SpringTide supplier page, which is unusual — most small Canadian operators appear only as unnamed "activity providers" on platform listings.
The two boats, and which one you actually want

Season, schedule and what it costs
The Ocean Cruiser runs from late March to 31 October with departures at 10:00 and 14:00. Zodiacs run from 1 April to 31 October on the same pattern, then a single midday departure through the fall and winter. Sunset tours on both boats appear in June, July and August. Tours are scheduled at about three hours and the company says it sometimes stays out longer. Peak sightings season is stated as June to October, with whales in these waters all year.

Check-in closes 30 minutes before departure and the company is blunt that it will not delay a departure for a late passenger. Parking is the real friction: WestPark Lot 708 at 1112 Wharf Street is three minutes away, the Yates Street Parkade five, and street parking is limited to 90 minutes. Budget four and a half hours of parking for a three-hour tour. Cancellation is free with 48 hours' notice and non-refundable inside that. Dress in layers with closed-toe shoes for either boat, and add a waterproof bag for the zodiac.
How it compares with the neighbours
Eagle Wing runs longer 3.5 to 4 hour tours from Fisherman's Wharf and holds a seat for you on a re-ride instead of putting you on stand-by, for about C$10 more. Treat the stand-by guarantee as a bonus rather than insurance, and go early in your stay so you can actually use it.
